Challenges
When applied, the competitor’s degreaser had a strong chemical odour, resulting in poor air quality and health effects for wash bay staff. The SDS identified harmful ingredients listed on the CEPA Toxic list. These issues prompted this oilfield service company to seek a new degreaser to remove oilfield residues without the negative health effects.
Solutions
Guardian Chemicals product, Breakaway, was introduced for testing. Side-by-side performance tests were performed on an oilfield service rig. Testing showed Breakaway eliminated noxious odours and improved perfomance.

Only 15.2 Litres of Breakaway was used in the test compared to 100 Litres of the competitive product—an 84.8% reduction in chemical use. For more difficult deposits, an estimated 50% reduction in chemical use was observed.
Costs Reduced by a Minimum of 29.8%
Where 50% reduction in chemical use was observed, chemical cleaning costs were reduced by 29.8% compared to the competitive product.
