Chemistry Done Better Starts with People

In specialty chemicals, trust shows up in the unglamorous places.

It shows up when a system is trending the wrong way and someone has to make a call. It shows up when the right answer is slower than the easy answer. And it shows up when a customer is counting on you to be calm, precise, and present—because their operation does not have time for guessing.

At Guardian Chemicals, we take culture seriously for one reason: culture is a quality system.

Not the kind that lives in a binder. The kind that lives in how people think, how they communicate, and what they do when the pressure is on.

Our purpose makes the standard clear: Chemistry Done Better… For a Better Future. We pursue that purpose through the skills, knowledge, responsiveness, and commitment of our people.

J.D. Roth (Managing Director and Co‑Owner) put it plainly on a recent Scaling UP! H2O episode: “There isn’t a company. There are people working together toward a common goal.”

If the company is people, then culture is not a “nice to have.” Culture is how you keep performance consistent across teams, roles, and decisions—so customers experience the same standard every time.

What you can expect from Guardian Chemicals

This is not a recruiting pitch. It is clarity—so you can decide whether this environment is right for you.

You will be evaluated on how you think and collaborate—not just what you say

If you interview with Guardian Chemicals, expect to meet both managers and people who do the day-to-day work. That is intentional. The people closest to the role know what “great teammate” actually looks like, and their perspective matters in the decision.

For some roles, we use collaborative case work so we can see how you think and work with others in realistic conditions—not just how you answer traditional interview questions. We are looking for the difference between someone who strengthens a group and someone who disrupts it.

You will be set up to succeed—not tested for theatre

A good hiring process is not a stress contest. We tell candidates what to expect, give clear schedules, and structure interviews so people can show up at their best. We do not gain anything from artificial surprises.

You will be expected to own outcomes

Ownership is not a buzzword here. It is the difference between “that’s not my job” and “I can help solve this.” In an industrial services business, that mindset is part of what customers pay for—and part of what makes the work meaningful.

You will be surrounded by people who learn

Growth mindset is one of our core values because improvement is never done. If you value feedback, mastery, and steady progress, you will recognize the culture quickly.

You will see respect for diverse strengths

We believe diversity and inclusion drive innovation. Practically, that means we build teams around strengths and we take culture fit seriously without turning it into sameness.

The standard we hold—and the standard we’ll hold you to

A quality system needs standards. At Guardian Chemicals, our core values are the standard we hire for, develop, and protect—because values drive behavior, and behavior drives outcomes.

Seek understanding — Ask  first. Listen carefully. Clarify the real problem before prescribing   a solution.

Growth mindset — Learn fast. Seek feedback. Improve the system, not just the moment.

Initiative — See it, own it, act. Don’t wait to be asked when a customer outcome is at stake.

Grit — Finish what matters. Stay steady when it gets hard or inconvenient.

Courage — Do what is right, especially when it is uncomfortable. Own mistakes. Have the tough conversation.

Elevate others — Make people better. Coach, support, and share credit. Build a team that performs when it counts.

These are not abstract ideals. They are practical behaviors that show up everywhere—in how we speak to customers, how we solve problems, and how we treat each other.

What we look for—and what we won’t compromise on

We look for: People who lead with curiosity and seek understanding before acting. People who take ownership and follow through. People who strengthen the team under pressure—coaching rather than competing destructively. People who do what is right and own mistakes, even when it is inconvenient.

We won’t compromise on: Core values misalignment. Capability does not override values. Team-damaging behavior—regardless of individual talent—because repairing culture is slower and costlier than hiring well.

Why this matters beyond hiring

Customers experience culture as service. They experience it as responsiveness, clarity, follow-through, and whether a partner holds up when the stakes are high.

The right partner answers the phone, understands the problem quickly, and works tirelessly toward a solution that holds up. That level of service is not luck. It is what happens when a team shares standards and knows how to make decisions together. That is the work you would be part of.

An invitation

It depends on the role, but you can expect to meet both managers and team members — not just one person making a decision. For some roles, we use collaborative exercises to see how you think and work with others in realistic conditions. You’ll know what to expect ahead of time. We don’t gain anything from surprises.
