Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Solutions for Conventional Oil and Gas Production
Production enhancement chemistry for flow assurance, hydrogen sulphide scavengers, cleaners and degreasers for equipment and tanks, metal preparation for maintenance work, water treatment for utilities, defoamers for separators and treaters, and wellbore abandonment chemistry at end of life.
Temperature and pressure drop along the line changing what the crude can hold in solution. Paraffin drops out as the fluid cools below its cloud point; asphaltenes destabilise with pressure change or incompatible fluid blending. They look similar in a pig receiver and need completely different chemistry, so identifying the deposit first matters.
With a scavenger matched to the phase and the contact time available. Injection point, residence time and water cut all determine how much of the scavenger actually reacts, and a scavenger injected where it cannot contact the H2S consumes chemical without reducing the number at the sales point.
Usually surfactants from the formation, from a workover fluid, or from a production chemical interacting with the crude. Foam in a separator carries liquid into gas and gas into liquid, which shows up as off-spec product and level control problems. A low-dose defoamer matched to the crude handles it.
With a scoped process rather than a crew and a pressure washer. Sludge volume, hydrocarbon type, pyrophoric iron sulphide, H2S and benzene all need to be established before entry planning, because they drive the chemistry, the ventilation and the disposal route. That assessment is the first stage of our BrightShield process.
Keep it wet and oxidise it under control, never let it dry in air. Iron sulphide ignites on contact with oxygen when dry, which is why tank cleans that go wrong usually go wrong during opening. Chemistry that converts it in place removes the hazard before the vessel is entered.
Cleaning and displacement chemistry to remove hydrocarbon and scale from the wellbore and casing so cement can bond to clean pipe. An abandonment that fails a bond log usually failed on preparation, and remediating it afterward costs far more than doing the cleaning properly the first time.
