Degassing removes hazardous vapours from tanks, vessels, towers and piping so people can enter and work safely. It is needed before entry, before hot work and before a maintenance window on any equipment that has held hydrocarbons or sour service fluids.
An H₂S scavenger reacts with hydrogen sulphide to neutralize it. An LEL suppressor lowers the concentration of flammable hydrocarbon vapours so the space is below the lower explosive limit. A job often needs both, along with vapour monitoring.
Iron sulphide can ignite when it dries and meets air, so it is treated as part of the cleaning program rather than left to be handled dry. Ferrosol controls iron sulphides during tank and vessel cleaning.
