Industrial Chemical Solutions for
Heavy Equipment

Effective chemical solutions critical to heavy machines and equipment

With Heavy Duty Equipment, Chemistry Makes a Big Difference

Your industry is tough on its equipment. When you need chemistry for scheduled (or unplanned) maintenance, you need solutions that are effective and fast-acting, including high-flash-point and low-VOC options that reduce fire risk and solvent exposure for your team. Because downtime compounds and creates a chain reaction that impacts your entire operations.

You Need a Chemical Partner That Can Deliver

Science, solutions & service work together for superior chemical performance

With outsized equipment, dirt and buildup cause huge problems. Your chemical partner should understand the two essential truths of your industry: cleaner equipment means better performance, and every extra minute of efficiency adds up. Guardian Chemicals strive to deliver solutions that work.

Solutions

Cleaning & Degreasing

Degassing & Scavenging

Effective scavenging and degassing is critical for your business. Not only can highly effective chemistry decrease downtime, it also helps protect your staff from H2S. Our highly concentrated scavenger products are designed to selectively scavenge H2S fast, effectively, and irreversibly. It converts poisonous and foul-smelling H2S gas to a liquid product. Many of our scavenger products can also effectively reduce mercaptans by over 90%.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Solutions for Heavy Equipment

What is the hardest soil to remove from heavy equipment?

Bitumen and heavy hydrocarbon bound with clay and mineral fines. It sets hard, bonds to painted and bare steel, and does not respond to general-purpose degreasers. It needs a purpose-built bitumen remover with enough dwell time to penetrate before pressure washing.

Why does my degreaser work in the shop but not in the field?

Temperature, mostly. Cleaning chemistry slows dramatically as ambient and water temperature fall, and most products are formulated and tested at conditions a Canadian winter never provides. Chemistry developed for cold-weather use, plus longer dwell, is what closes the gap.

How do I stop damaging paint and decals when cleaning equipment?

Match the chemistry to the surfaces and control dwell. Strongly alkaline or solvent-heavy products left to dry on painted surfaces will dull or lift them, and aluminium etches. Rinsing before the product dries matters as much as the product choice.

What is the fastest way to clean equipment before a shutdown or inspection?

Pre-soak with the right chemistry, give it real dwell time, then pressure wash. Crews under time pressure shorten the dwell and increase pressure, which takes longer overall and puts more water and more runoff through the operation for a worse result.

How do we handle wash pad runoff?

Contain and characterise it. Wash water from heavy equipment carries hydrocarbon, solids and metals, and discharge limits apply nearly everywhere. We provide the expected characteristics for the product and dose so the wash pad and any treatment can be sized before the work starts.

Can we reduce water use in equipment washing?

Yes, mostly by letting chemistry do more of the work. Effective pre-soak with adequate dwell cuts rinse time and volume substantially, because you are rinsing away loosened soil instead of blasting bonded soil off with water.

Does the same product work on bitumen, grease and road film?

Rarely well. These are different soils and a product that handles all three acceptably usually handles none of them efficiently. Most operations do better with a heavy-duty degreaser for general work and a dedicated bitumen remover for the hard cases.

Do you have products approved for oilsands sites?

We hold product approvals at major oilsands sites, and where a product is not yet on a site list we work directly with site EHS to have it assessed. That is a normal part of our process rather than an exception we make for large accounts.

What about equipment going in for maintenance or rebuild?

Cleaning standards there are different because the goal is inspection and reassembly, not appearance. Residue left in a gearbox or on a mating surface becomes a contamination problem in the rebuild, so gear cleaning and parts cleaning chemistry is chosen for compatibility and rinse behaviour rather than speed.
