Heating and Cooling System Water Treatment | Cleaners & Degreasers

Balance is Everything

In your industry, it’s integral that all systems are working efficiently and balanced perfectly. Not just your production machinery, but also the systems that support your factory. If the ideal temperature can’t be maintained, it affects your product, which affects your bottom line. You need chemistry that keeps product quality high and utility use low, all while ensuring the safety of all your staff.

You Need Chemistry You Can Count On

And that means a chemical partner with proactive solutions

Your systems are designed specifically to support your manufacturing processes. Those systems rely on chemistry that can keep things running efficiently. That means you need a chemical partner who not only understands those processes but can also deliver quickly under all conditions. At Guardian, we’re here to find solutions that ensures the quality of your product is protected.

Solutions

Water Treatment

Your heating and cooling systems need to work effectively while minimizing utility costs. Guardian delivers the three pillars required for successful water treatment: industry-leading chemistry, responsive and knowledgeable service, and the holistic processes to ensure your systems perform at the lowest possible operating cost. This approach is grounded in decades of experience and supported by a data-driven process, giving operations and leadership the peace of mind they deserve. And we do this with health and safety as our top priority—that means everything from providing the proper training to handle the products to water management plans ensuring legionella does not cause an issue for your institution. We can help by providing chemistry that is designed to get the most out of your systems, and the service support needed to keep them working as long as possible.

While the best water systems will be perfectly balanced, we understand that sometimes not everything goes as planned. That is why we also have a suite of solutions such as defoamers, descalers and odour controllers to help get your system back on track and operating at peak performance.

Sanitizing & Disinfecting

If you can’t protect the health and safety of your staff, then you can’t protect the continuity of your production.

Protect the health of everyone in and around your buildings from the visible and invisible bacteria, fungi, and other contaminants that can linger for days in the right environment. Guardian’s wide variety of solutions include several registered with Health Canada. All our hard surface cleaners, sanitizers, and disinfectants are made to ensure the cleanliness of contaminated surfaces.

Descaling

The best water systems will be perfectly balanced to minimize scale issues. However, once scale develops, it can impact the efficacy of your boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and heat exchangers. By treating this issue as soon as it’s noticed, you can prevent further negative impacts on your systems and equipment. We have the systems and people to properly treat the issue and optimize your system’s performance, no matter what condition it’s in.

We’re Here to Support You

Your chemistry needs are specific, but they aren’t static. That’s why it’s so important to work with someone who can create solutions for changing situations.

At Guardian Chemicals, we know that no two systems are the same, and each solution needs to be customized. What sets us apart is not just the technical knowledge of our team and the lab resources that ensure our solutions work for your system, but also the service we offer to support your business today, and tomorrow.

Programs for your systems: boiler water treatment, cooling tower treatment, closed loop and chiller treatment and DataGuard monitoring. Local service: Edmonton and Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver and Florida.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Solutions for Painting and Coating

What chemistry does a painting and coating operation need?

Metal pretreatment chemistry for cleaning and preparing substrate, water treatment for booth water and any process cooling or heating, descaling on heat transfer equipment in wash stages and ovens, and plant sanitation. Substrate preparation is where most coating failures actually originate.

Why are we getting fisheyes and craters in the finish?

Silicone or oil contamination almost every time. Silicone from a defoamer, a lubricant or an aerosol used nearby migrates easily and needs very little to cause a defect. In coating environments the rule is no silicone anywhere in the process chemistry, including in the water treatment products.

How does water quality affect our rinse stages?

Significantly. Dissolved solids left on the part after the final rinse become spots and adhesion defects under the coating. Hardness and alkalinity also fight the chemistry in the cleaning and conversion stages, so a wash line running on untreated hard water spends more chemical to reach the same surface condition.

What causes adhesion failures after coating?

Usually surface preparation rather than the coating. Residual soil, a cleaning stage running below its concentration or temperature, an exhausted conversion bath, or contamination in the final rinse will all give a coat that looks right and fails later. Verifying each stage in the wash line is where the answer normally is.

How do we keep our wash stages in control?

Titrate the baths on a schedule rather than dosing to a calendar, hold temperature, and track drag-in and drag-out between stages. Most wash lines that have drifted did so gradually while every individual reading still looked acceptable in isolation.

Why is our booth water foaming or smelling?

Paint solids and surfactants accumulating in the water, and biological growth in a system that sits warm between shifts. Foam reduces the water’s ability to handle overspray, and odour is normally microbiological. Both are treatable, but the treatment has to be non-silicone for obvious reasons.

Does scale in our ovens and heat exchangers matter?

Yes. Scale reduces heat transfer in the wash-stage heaters and any steam or hot water coil, so the line runs below setpoint or takes longer to recover between loads. In a coating line, a wash stage running ten degrees cool is a quality problem before it is an energy problem.

Can you help troubleshoot a defect we cannot pin down?

Yes. Our lab can analyse the deposit, the bath, or the water and our technical people will work through the line stage by stage with your team. Most persistent defects trace to a specific stage that has been drifting, and the analysis is what identifies which one.

Do you supply silicone-free products across the range?

Yes, and we will confirm it in writing for anything you are putting into a coating environment. Because we formulate our own chemistry we can control what goes into a product rather than relying on a supplier’s assurance about a blend we did not make.
