Chemical Solutions for
Oil & Gas Transportation

Efficient and effective chemical solutions for oil and gas storage and transportation

Do You Have What You Need to Keep Things Moving?

As oil and gas products move around the world, you are the one that makes sure it gets stored and shipped as efficiently as possible. Yet even efficient systems are slowed down by fouling and corrosion. You need safe, effective chemistry to keep things moving and reduce downtime while making sure you meet all safety and compliance requirements.

Pushing Forward Through Innovation

Peak performance is redefined through superior science & commitment to service

Whether it’s tanks, pipelines, rail cars, trucks, or a combination of different equipment, the key to storing and moving oil and gas products are efficiency and safety. But pipelines get clogged, tanks require degassing, and all equipment gets greasy. You don’t have time to waste on solutions that require days of downtime or only fix issues in the short term. That’s why we send experts into the field to evaluate the unique conditions creating your challenges and then use our unsurpassed lab resources to create programs specific to your systems.

Solutions

Cleaning & Degreasing

The equipment and vehicles needed to move oil and gas must meet strict safety and performance targets. To keep them working safely and efficiently, they need to be cleaned and repaired regularly. We specialize in reducing the overall costs of maintenance and turnarounds for all your equipment and machinery by developing new chemical formulations and more effective field cleaning procedures.

Degassing & Scavengers

H2S and Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) control is critical to your operations. Whatever inspection schedule you’re on, we can ensure that your tanks are degassed of fumes quickly, effectively, and safely with our scavenging solutions.

We understand that as you’re cleaning tanks and vessels, dangerous gasses may be caught in the sludge, which is why our scavengers are formulated to clean as well as degas to optimize safety and efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Solutions for Storage and Transportation

What chemistry is used in storage and transportation operations?

Tank and vessel cleaning chemistry, degassing and decontamination products, hydrogen sulphide and mercaptan scavengers, odour control, metal preparation for maintenance, water treatment for utilities, and general plant cleaning chemistry.

How do you clean a large storage tank efficiently?

By scoping it first. Sludge volume, hydrocarbon type, pyrophoric content, H2S and benzene levels and the disposal route all have to be established before the work is planned, because they decide the chemistry, the entry sequence and the cost of getting rid of what comes out. Our case work includes 700 cubic metres of sludge removed with a 77 percent reduction in toxic vapours.

What is the biggest cost in a tank clean?

Usually disposal, not chemistry or labour. Sludge volume and how it is characterised determine the disposal route and its cost, so chemistry that reduces volume and converts hazardous components changes the total cost of the job far more than the price per drum does.

How do we make a vessel safe to enter faster?

Chemical degassing and decontamination rather than ventilation alone. Converting the sulphide and stripping hydrocarbon vapour brings H2S, LEL and benzene down to entry levels in a defined sequence, and it compresses the part of the schedule that is otherwise just waiting.

What do we do about pyrophoric iron sulphide in tanks?

Keep it wet and convert it chemically before opening. Dry iron sulphide ignites in air, and tank incidents typically occur during opening rather than during the clean. Handling it is a planning decision made before the outage.

How do we control odour complaints during a tank clean?

Treat the source and the vapour path, not the fence line. Mercaptans and H2S released during cleaning are the usual cause of complaints, and controlling them with scavenging chemistry during the work is more effective than masking at the perimeter after the phone calls start.

What is involved in cleaning transport tankers and pipelines?

Removing product residue to a standard set by the next service, whether that is a different product, an inspection, or a repair. Cross-contamination risk and residue verification drive the chemistry, and turnaround time drives the method, because a tanker being cleaned is not earning.

How do we handle the waste stream from a clean?

Characterise it before the job. Wash water and recovered sludge carry hydrocarbon, sulphide and solids, and the disposal facility needs to know what is coming. We provide the expected characteristics for the chemistry and dose so the disposal approval is arranged before the work rather than during it.

Do you support the job on site or just supply product?

Both, and most of this work goes through our BrightShield process: an audit against defined objectives, lab fingerprinting of the deposit, chemistry screened against it, on-site support during the application, and a validation report. Cleaning work at this scale does not respond well to buying a product and hoping.
